I haven’t written since the 24th Nov (when normally I try to write one post a day) because I have been very busy recently.
As those in UK travel technology know, many holiday companies need their IT projects completed by the end of November - in order to be stable and up and running by the next January - which is the busiest booking period of the year (for summer / June / July / August travel).
We have just about made it this year - I have worked the last two weekends through - and most evenings this week. Last night we successfully handled our big release of the season….. including transferring thousands of bookings from one system to another on behalf of multiple travel companies. (We run the technology for a number of companies - all based on the same software / hardware instance).
You know its been a tough night when you eventually get to bed - and its the 6 AM news on the radio.
Anyway, back to fully blog posting again next week….. in the meantime here are some headlines that I have read from other news outlets…. which have amused me recently (remember this is Friday)
Booking angers Sir Alex - BBC News Website
I think this had something to do with Manchester United football….. I don’t think the BBC are following the ins and outs of our booking transfer testing….. maybe they are
Technology alleviates stress - Travel Trade Gazette 23rd November
Really? Maybe for everyone except those in IT ! Apparently the result of a survey done by the Institute of Travel Management within their membership. I bet they didn’t ask their IT folk - just their product / commercial people! You would have got a different answer.
Mind you, this year has been better than last. This time last year I project managed one reservation system change project (moving from one system to another) and we had most bookings with misplaced room allocations…. It took 2 people 4 weeks to manually go through each booking and put the customers back on the right rooms.
I wonder if I can get next years holiday request in now…. November would be a good month to have off.

Good to see you back Alex..
It must be that time of the year because my RSS reader isn’t very active at the moment.
I would appreciate your comments on this post when you get the time.
